WHERE IS THE DUTY OF THE UNHCR?
Emergency Refugee Massacre in Tunisia
From day burns Chouca refugee camp about 25 km from the town of Ras Ajdir near the border with Libya, where they found shelter thousands of refugees fled from Tripoli Africans, including many displaced Eritreans, Ethiopians and Somalis. The refugee camp Chouca already born bad, in a place suitable, without the necessary precautions and attention to protection for vulnerable groups like women and children. Months ago we said that if things were slow problems would have been born inside and outside the camp, which would manifest an intolerance of the population of the area. Here is that Tuesday morning occurred hundreds of Libyan and Tunisian nationals who have set fire to the tents of refugees, killing hundreds of barrels of Africans, who were demonstrating against the living conditions in the camp and asked for a quicker solution to their problems. The Tunisian government that would ensure the safety of the field has not met its commitments, even witnesses report that several soldiers were firing at refugees who tried to defend their tents from Tunisia who came to splinter and catch fire. The international community must ask the Tunisian government’s respect for and protection of refugee camps, because at this time thousands of refugees are at the mercy to people who set fire to their tents, which has sent hundreds of refugees wounded in the hospital because we are talking about hundreds of deaths in these days of revolt.
The international community and responsible for the lives of all these people who are entrusted to international organizations that were present in the refugee camp, people who have died in the fire, as well as those killed and wounded in the wave of violence brought by the local population . The international community must take responsibility through their REPRESENTATIVES and clarify responsibilities and above all ensure the maximum protection to refugees.
We ask to be put in place a plan for evacuation of refugees from Tunisia as soon as possible to countries that are able to offer international protection they need the refugees who are currently in state of total abandonment Chouca – Tunisia.
Appeal to the UNHCR for refugees in Eritrea, Ethiopia and Somali
Dear Dr. Antonio Guterres United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Now for a month, the Libyan crisis keeps us in great fear for the fate of displaced Eritreans, Ethiopians and Somalis without any possibility of being evacuated by the European states. Many of these refugees are registered with your office in Tripoli, some hand in the refugee card which you have released. We also say many of them were waiting to be re located in different European countries, Canada, the USA, the current crisis broke, now we ask you to support all practices re settlement from the refugee camps in Tunisia to those countries willing to accept . Many Eritreans, Ethiopians and Somalis are fleeing from Tripoli to Tunisia, as well as from Benghazi to Egypt, we must urge the international community to look after their evacuation from these North African countries that are embracing with great generosity of thousands of refugees fled from Libya should not be left alone to bear the full weight of the vast expanses of the refugee camps as temporary accommodation must find a rapid response to humanitarian evacuation of refugees and refugees who can not return to the country of origin such as Eritrea, Ethiopia and Somali. You can not leave thousands of refugees in tent camps with all the discounts that this condition implies, especially for families with newborns. We must also consider the ability to tolerate his presence among the population of Tunisia, a quick solution can avoid the risks of intolerance that put in danger the lives of refugees and their families. Need a plan for emergency evacuation from Tunisia and Egypt to Europe, Canada, USA, Australia, countries that are able to ensure the international protection provided by the Geneva Convention of 1951. We demand a strong commitment of UNHCR to reach a quick solution to this humanitarian emergency that has affected thousands of displaced Eritreans, Ethiopians and Somalis who at this time are trying to escape the ongoing war in Libya. Yours sincerely Don Mussie Zerai
